Arunali Madhuwanthi
Arunali received an iPhone in July 2018. We followed up with her to learn how our donation has affected her quality of life.
I’m Arunali Madhuwanthi. I’m from Deraniyagala. Presently, I am an undergraduate at the University of Colombo. I am a person with low vision.
As vision impaired persons, we face many challenges. To overcome such challenges, we have to use various assistive devices and software. I was fortunate enough to receive an iPhone which helps me overcome challenges I face as an undergraduate student.
I record lectures using the Voice Memo app. I use the Seeing AI app to read printed reference material. I also use the video magnifier app to view powerpoint presentations, graphs, images, etc. The accessibility features of the iPhone such as Voice Over, Siri, and magnifier are far better than those available on Android phones. So, now that I have been using an iPhone, it is almost impossible to live without one.
I am sincerely thankful for the donation of iPhones to me and my fellow vision impaired friends. We would never have been able to get them for ourselves with our families’ meager incomes.
