Harshani Kaushalya
Harshani received an iPhone in July 2018. We followed up with her to learn how our donation has affected her quality of life.
Greetings from Sri Lanka! I’m Harshani Kaushalya. I live in Malabe. I have low vision. I completed my degree at the University of Colombo and am presently waiting for my results.
When I received this iPhone last year, it was a dream come true. I had heard about the accessibility features of the iPhone, but I could never have one. So, it really changed my life.
Sometimes I use it as a magnifier and sometimes I use it as a pocket dictionary. I can check the meanings of difficult words easily. My favorite app is Seeing AI, because I can read books easily from it. Another app that is most helpful for visually impaired people is Voice Memos, so I usually use it to take down my notes. I can travel alone with Google Maps. The compass and measure apps are very helpful.
Thanks to the iPhone, now I am more independent. So, I take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in providing iPhones to visually impaired Sri Lankans. Thank you very much again.
